Description of Services Provided: Urban Transport Behavioral Changes Survey

This study assessed how transport behavior among Dhaka city dwellers changed before and after the traffic control instability of August 2024. Specifically, it examined modal shifts, travel time changes, route adjustments, commuter stress, and adaptive strategies across different socioeconomic groups.

To ensure accurate findings, AIR Ltd designed and developed a comprehensive survey targeting a diverse cross-section of urban residents. These included private vehicle users, public transport passengers, pedestrians, and ride-sharing users.

Moreover, the team developed a digital data collection system using KoBo Toolbox. This system enabled efficient and structured data collection across a broad geographic and demographic range.

In addition, AIR Ltd recruited and trained skilled enumerators to maintain data quality and strengthen respondent engagement.

Subsequently, face-to-face surveys were conducted at strategic locations throughout Dhaka city, including residential, commercial, and transit areas.

The survey captured essential information on:

  • Pre-August 2024 transport habits
  • Post-August 2024 travel pattern changes
  • Safety perceptions
  • Convenience levels
  • Cost implications
  • Travel time variations

After data collection, the team performed data cleaning, statistical analysis, and comparative assessments. The findings were segmented by gender, income group, travel purpose, and geographic area.

Finally, AIR Ltd prepared detailed reports featuring visual infographics, trend charts, and policy-focused recommendations.

Key Highlights

This study was among the first systematic assessments of the behavioral effects of the August 2024 traffic management crisis in Dhaka.

Furthermore, the findings provide valuable insights for:

  • Urban mobility planning
  • Emergency traffic response
  • Citizen-centered transport reforms

Importantly, the research emphasized the role of real-time data and community feedback in building adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable urban transport systems.
